[Good thing Chara's already laying down, because they surely would not be able to remain standing after such a grievous blow. At their most vulnerable moment!

They roll away from Frisk, turn their back. Kind of just scrunch into the wall. Cover their face with their hands, and make a weird muffled sound that maybe intended to be a laugh or a shriek or a groan, but kind of... only really qualifies as noise.]

I can't believe you, Frisk!

What? You think I wouldn't wanna know how to cheer up my friiiiiiiend?

[They're poking fun, but they're still writing, too. They're compiling a list of things Chara might appreciate as birthday gifts. Knitting needles, some really nice colorful yarns, high-quality chocolate bars...]

[Another anguished weird noise. A note of pure and utter embarrassment. The sap levels here are lethal. They're about to reach critical mass. Chara bolts up from their bed and across the room, entirely willing to nobly and selflessly sacrifice Frisk's entire concept of personal space in order to read over their shoulder.]

Joke's on you, sucker. I'm impossible to cheer up. I'm un-cheer-up-able. Uncheeruppable. What are - what are you even writing down?

[They say it so sweetly too, chipper as a chipmunk. Completely innocent. Look at them. They are the pinnacle of innocence. A pinnocence.]

That's why dancing didn't make you happy at all, huh?

[Look at this. Get a load of this pinnocence. It's 201X and this is the sort of tomfoolery Chara still has to put up with.

There is only one option. Clearly. They make a grab for the notebook. They must rip this list out and scrunch it up and - and... they don't know. Eat it. It's the Only Way. They gotta.]

[Ohhhh no they don't! Frisk is a Grade-A dodger, and they even manage to finish the current item on their list with a flourish as they pull smoothly back and duck Chara's hands.]

And who enjoyed the heck out of themselves anyway, hm?

[This is the worst. Curse Frisk and their... whole... being better at dodging... ness!!]

Absolutely not me! You'd better not have put dancing on that list!

[They lunge for it again. Keep-away is totally not a game, but a serious and perilous contest of wills. Just, you know, for the record.]

Yes! You cannot escape it! You will receive dancing for your birthday!

[They roll over, clutching the notebook flat to their chest so that it's pinned beneath them. Try and get at it now!]

I'd rather put up with the Mettaton cut-out!

[A moment of hesitation. Touch is difficult, touch is a little scary, touch makes their skin crawl like spiders sometimes, but... but Frisk did it first. So... Frisk won't mind, right? All's fair in LOVE and war. They don't bother to think about which one of the two this is supposed to be.

Instead: they tickle.]

[Cheating! Frisk kicks out, giggling, rolling frantically around to try and dislodge the wriggling fingers.]

St-stop! It's - it's supposed to be a - surprise!

[Truly, this is the grimmest round of Determination vs. Determination yet. The stakes have never been higher, and the fingers have never been wigglier.]

You'll get no mercy from me! Surrender or perish!

I'm not - gonna - spoil it!

[There is no escaping the tickle fight, so Frisk does what they must: roll over. And keep rolling. And keep rolling.

In fact, they roll right off the bed and just keep going.]

[Huh. They started off playing Keep-Away, now they're playing Ball Game. They sort of wonder if Frisk would just roll right out the room and onto eternity if they opened the door right now.

However, they have a mightier tactic. One that will put an end to all rolling by force.

They sit on Frisk. Just. Park themselves right on Frisk's back. Behold! The unshakable might of an actually-pretty-scrawny preteen. None shall escape their impressive weight.]

* Chara blocks the way!

[Oof. Oh, that's playing dirty.]

[Crap, and no SAVE points. Ah, well. Time to get inventive. Frisk is quite good at squirming out of tight spots, after all.

They work their hand out from under the combined weight of Chara's body and their own - the one holding the pencil, that is - and start poking every inch of Chara they can twist around to reach. Not very hard, but just enough to be an irritation.]

[Ow. Ow. Oh nooo, how can they endure this barrage of mildly annoying gentle prods, etc.

They're determined, but there's still a point (badum-tssht) where...

Hee hee hee! C'mon, Chara, let me win!

The monster always wins when you play Humans and Monsters. Monsters are much more delicate than humans are, there's a point where you have to remind yourself of that. 20 HP, 0 AT, 0 DF. Pretty low numbers. Frisk's kind of a wimpy baby, right? So... they can be the monster this time.

So Chara gasps melodramatically. Clutches their leg where they got prodded last.]

No! This power!! How could you defeat meeeee?

[And they sort of... topple sideways off Frisk. Thump. There's an Emmy out there with their name on it.]

I always remember your name, Heats Flamesman!

[They snicker as Chara milks that defeat for all its worth, and then seize the opportunity to shove the notebook under their bed with all the rest of the miscellany beneath. Try finding it now.]

[They prop themselves up on their elbows, ever-so-surreptitiously trying to spot the notebook. It was here a second ago, right? Still under Frisk, maybe...?]

What, is that his name? I thought he was Hots Coolguy.

Wow, Coldman Browbeats, don't take it so personally. We can't even get the hang of remembering our own names.

[They sit up straight, and what's this? The notebook is ~gone.

Well, no, it's under their bed. But for all intents and purposes, it's ~gone.]

Was that you forgetting Heats Flamesman half the time, or me?

Did they cram it into a Dimensional Box? WHAT SORCERY IS THIS. Chara's... totally not casting looks all over the floor or anything. They're subtle. Super subtle.]

It didn't change anything if you remembered Fires Grillguy or not. Unnecessary information. Why waste time on it, right?

[They can't help but be a little amused that Chara's so clearly trying to pick up where they left off, but Frisk crosses their legs and sits there, perfectly innocent.]
