SO FAR

ólafur arnalds (feat. arnor dan)

[]

So far from who I was
From who I LOVE
From who I want to be

So far from all our dreams
From what LOVE means
From you here next to me

So far from seeing HoPe
I stand out here alone
Am I asking for too much?

So far from being free
A past that's haunting me
A future I just can't touch

And if you take my hand
Please pull me from the dark
And show me HoPe again

We'll run side by side
No secrets left to hide
Sheltered from the pain

TORIEL
One of the first people Frisk met Underground, and one of the first people to let them feel as though the concept of "home" could be tangible and real. Toriel took them in, cared for them without a second thought, and would have been happy to let them live in her home for the rest of their days as her adoptive child. In many timelines, Frisk lingered for as long as they could. In others, they struck her down when she barred the way to the Underground. In still others, they found a way to spare her, despite everything.

In some, they accrued as much LOVE as possible in the RUINS, and cut her down in one stroke.

This is the timeline Toriel remembers, and that Frisk can never forgive themselves for. They have come to see Toriel as the weight of their consequences made manifest, proof that no matter how they try to LOAD and RESET, they cannot ERASE the burden of their sins. While the relationship between the pair of them, originally fraught with mistrust and anger and fear, has lessened somewhat, a long time will have to pass before Frisk can view their interactions with Toriel as anything other than imposition on her potential happiness with Chara.

But there may yet be HoPe.
